DuBois teams celebrated; 1A reclassification to affect future schedules

The board recognized the middle‑school football team and high‑school girls’ teams for successful seasons and presented awards during the Oct. 24 meeting. Coaches and trustees praised athletes’ performances; the football team finished 6–0 at the middle‑school level and coaches and staff were thanked.
Adi O’Brien, athletics representative, told the board the state association has proposed changes to classification numbers that will reduce 1A from 29 teams to 20 teams and create five divisions. DuBois is slated to be placed in the Northwest division for basketball and volleyball (DuBois, Matisse, Burlington, Riverside and Tensely among the listed opponents). The reclassification is expected to affect basketball and volleyball scheduling and travel; it will not change wrestling, track or the 6‑man football grouping, though one 9‑man football team (Guernsey) will be added to DuBois’ football schedule.
O’Brien also reported DuBois will host volleyball regionals in Lander on Oct. 31–Nov. 1 and encouraged community support. No board action was required.
