Board approves Core Construction as CMC to solicit bids for Floyd Central softball project, 7-0

The New Albany Floyd County Schools board voted 7-0 Oct. 27 to approve Core Construction as the construction manager (CMC) to perform the bidding process for a proposed Floyd Central softball complex. The board approved a $9,500 fee for Core to complete the preconstruction and bid-collection phase.

Matt Wynne, who presented the item, said three qualified firms responded to the district—s RFP: Core Construction, Shireman Construction and Taber Owens. "According to our rubric and the scoring, we came out with the determination that Core Construction would be the company that we would use as the CMC for this project," Wynne said. He told the board Core's fee for this portion of the work is $9,500 and that, if the project proceeds to full construction, Core would receive a 3.5% fee on the project if they bring back bids that the district accepts.

Wynne and board members said parts of the project are bid alternates, including a parking-lot portion and a hitting facility/concessions/restroom building, meaning the district may choose not to include those items depending on final prices. A board member asked whether the architect—s final drawings had been shared; Wynne said he had the final drawings and could make copies available to board members.

On the motion to approve the CMC to solicit bids, the board recorded seven ayes: Missus Weishardt, Missus Carruthers, Missus Ball, Missus Galligan, Mister Nafis, Missus Northup and Missus Gardenau. Dr. Madison recognized a Core representative in the room and referenced a recent ribbon-cutting at the Highland Hills natatorium as an example of a completed project with Core Construction.
