Borough manager reports progress on Northstar transfer; maintenance systems, landfill mapping and fuel-spill response discussed

Borough Manager Amy Williams told the assembly on Aug. 21 that Kodiak Island Borough staff and Kodiak Island Borough School District (KBSD) personnel "decided on the path forward to continue the transfer of the building to the borough" and that the topic will be on the Aug. 28 agenda for further conversation about opportunities to use the Northstar facility.

In her manager—s report, Williams gave multiple facility and operational updates. Staff have produced a GIS-enabled map showing problem points in the landfill fence; each mapped point includes a clickable description of the issue, Williams said. Information-technology and engineering staff are working on a software-conversion timeline and a new server for the landfill, and IT is planning security cameras and internet access at Northstar should the borough occupy or lease the building.
