Warrenton — The Board of Aldermen voted unanimously Oct. 7 to authorize the mayor to enter a multi‑year agreement with the Missouri Department of Transportation that reimburses local officers who perform work‑zone enforcement during highway construction.
City Administrator Brandy Walters presented the ordinance, explaining the program allows officers to sign up for enforcement shifts (paid through MoDOT) in construction work zones and that the city will be reimbursed for payroll costs. Walters said the initial agreement covers five years with an option to renew annually if construction continues.
Walters said the agreement is intended to increase visible enforcement near construction and lower crash rates in work zones. The police chief confirmed officers would coordinate with construction foremen and with state troopers when shifts are rotated.
The board advanced the ordinance through first and second readings during the same meeting and adopted Bill No. 45‑25 by roll call vote, recorded 6–0.
No additional financial appropriation for the program was recorded at the meeting; the agreement reimburses officers’ pay for their participation under the terms provided by MoDOT.
