The Olivette City Council on Oct. 14 approved contracts and purchases to decommission two patrol vehicles and upfit one patrol Dodge Durango and one administrative Dodge Durango.
Chief Beth Andreski, Olivette chief of police, told council the request covers removal of decals, transfer or purchase of lighting and wiring, labor and miscellaneous items. "This equipment cost, of course, is just to decommission the vehicles that we currently have," Andreski said, adding that some salvageable equipment is redeployed when feasible.
The motion authorized the city manager to enter an agreement with Ad Graphics for decal removal and a new graphic package for a Dodge Durango not to exceed $850; to authorize upfitting and decommissioning work not to exceed $11,500; and to purchase miscellaneous items such as WeatherTech floor mats not to exceed $300.
Council members discussed reuse of equipment and the trade-in or auction process for items that cannot be reused. The council voted unanimously by those present: Council member Lewis, Council member Pashawn Hellman and Mayor Clark voted yes; two members were absent (excused). The motion passed.
Staff said one of the decommissioned vehicles will be reassigned to another city department and the other will be placed for auction.
The authorization allows staff to proceed with vendor agreements and the specified purchases; no further council action on the upfitting was scheduled.
