Board recognizes Parent Mentor Program and Family Focus partners

The board recognized the district's Parent Mentor program and its leadership at the start of the Oct. 20 meeting. Shannon Walsh, the district professional learning administrator, introduced the leaders and described the program as operating across eight schools to train parents to support instruction, build home-school connections and lead literacy and cultural events.
Organizers Rosia Perez and Ileana Rescon spoke briefly to thank the district and the parent mentors; Darren Johnson of Family Focus also thanked the district for the recognition. Board members offered brief remarks of appreciation for the program's community-building role.
