Commissioners praise Highway 60 work, flag speeding and loud mufflers in adjacent neighborhoods

Commissioner Bill Winters told the commission he is pleased with the engineering work on Highway 60 and said the relocation of Cleveland Middle School has improved traffic flow. "It's been beautifully prepared and put together," Winters said.
Winters raised concerns that the new multi-lane stretches can encourage higher speeds in what remain residential zones. "It's easy to go 55 when it's 35 zone," he said, adding that loud mufflers and late-evening racing-style driving have become a nuisance for nearby neighborhoods.
Winters said the road is a city street and suggested the city will need to consider speed-limit enforcement and other mitigations to protect residents. No formal county action was taken at the meeting on the issue.
