Commission approves advertisement of RFQ for airport planning and engineering services

Garfield County commissioners voted to advertise a request for qualifications for planning and engineering services at the county airport, county staff said. Ty, the county's public works director, told the commission the existing five-year engineering selection expires Jan. 1 and that the county proposes to accept RFQ submissions through 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21 and open proposals at the Nov. 24 commission meeting.

“Our five years is up on January 1, so we just need to put it out to bid and advertise for the next three weeks,” Ty said during his presentation.

The commission moved and seconded the item and approved advertising the RFQ by voice vote. The RFQ will be advertised at the county's expense; engineering fees will be covered by grant funding once a firm is selected, staff said.

The county will use a qualifications-based selection (RFQ) process to identify a planning and engineering firm for airport projects and operations. According to Ty, the county will accept statements of qualifications until 3:00 p.m. on Nov. 21 and bring the opening to the Nov. 24 meeting for the commission's review.

Commissioners did not name a preferred firm during the meeting. The item was brought under department business; no other formal conditions were attached to the motion.

Next steps: staff will publish the RFQ on the county procurement page, accept submissions through Nov. 21 and present the results at the Nov. 24 meeting for further direction from the commission.
