Local transplant recipient urges Oak Grove residents to register as organ donors

Lacey Hanover, a resident of Oak Grove, spoke during the Oct. 6, 2025 public comment period about the nationwide shortage of organs for transplantation and urged residents to consider registering as organ donors. Hanover said she was born with liver disease and received a life-saving liver transplant after a match became available.
“I was born with liver disease but lived a fairly normal childhood until a routine checkup revealed I had a rare condition that was only cured with a new liver,” Hanover said. “Two weeks after being placed on the transplant list, I got the call. There was a match that saved my life.”
Hanover said she will staff an information and registration booth at the city’s National Night Out event on Thursday at Webb Park and encouraged residents to stop by to learn more and register. Mayor Dana Webb and other board members thanked Hanover for sharing her story. Alderman Melissa Johnson noted Hanover will be at the event with information and that local Girl Scouts will help staff or support outreach.
Why it matters: According to Hanover’s remarks, more than 100,000 people are on transplant waiting lists nationwide; she framed donation as life-saving for recipients and meaningful for families and communities.
