A commission member reported receiving a reply that the mayor of Akim Oda had reviewed the sister/friendship guidelines and was "very much enthused" and willing to proceed, but the Ghanaian side had not yet joined Sister Cities International. Commissioners said the appropriate next step was to ask the requester whether they will join Sister Cities International and to convene interested Vallejo residents to confirm there is a viable committee and long-term local capacity before committing to a reciprocal friendship-city process.
Commissioners cautioned that Vallejo already maintains multiple sister relationships and that adding additional cities without active local committees can dilute capacity. The commission agreed to follow up by sharing guidelines with local contacts, scheduling a community meeting of residents with Ghanaian heritage and reporting results at a future commission meeting; staff also offered to forward the Sister Cities International guidelines to the requester and to Vallejo commissioners.
