James Howard, presenting the community-resources update, told the Board of Supervisors that Greene County has partnered with Care Portal and will work closely with the Green Alliance to publish specific family needs on the platform.
Howard said the platform allows staff to post concrete requests (for example, a washer and dryer) to a network of churches and organizations, which then coordinate pickup and delivery; he recounted a recent example in which a posted need was met in about 24 hours. Howard said Care Portal trains church volunteers who then contact the family and complete the delivery and coordination.
Howard said the partnership is intended to preserve families by addressing material barriers that can lead to instability. He provided handouts listing participating churches and described the effort as a way for individuals and congregations to identify tangible ways to help their neighbors. The presentation was informational and did not request county funding.
