Superintendent proposes formal policy revision process and audit; board supportive
Summary
Superintendent Maura Palmer proposed a multi‑phase policy revision process that begins with an audit of existing policies and could include partnering with the New Hampshire School Boards Association; the board supported moving forward with an internal audit and creating a policy committee early next year.
Superintendent Maura Palmer presented a proposed schedule to formalize the district’s policy revision process. The plan begins with a Phase 1 audit of existing policies (already started by staff), followed by establishing a policy committee in January–February, and moving into a recurring three‑to‑five year revision cycle beginning in March.
Palmer said she has consulted with the New Hampshire School Boards Association and that partnering with the association is an option but could place the district a year out because of the association’s queue. The superintendent proposed that district staff continue the audit now (phase 1) and prepare a prioritized list of policies for revision using the association’s spreadsheet tool, then form a small policy committee that would include a board member and staff to shepherd a scheduled revision timeline to the board for first and second readings as required by board rules.
Board members welcomed the proposed timeline and a former board member was identified as someone willing to help on policy work. No formal vote was required; the board directed staff to continue the audit and return with recommendations for a policy committee and schedule.
