Staff described soliciting alumni responses to the phrase and converting frequently cited positive adjectives into a logo and merchandise. "When people say it, it means ... we want our kid to say, 'I am. Thank you.'" staff said during the meeting. Plans include signage for stadiums and gyms, T-shirts for nominated athletes and alumni engagement on social media.
Committee members praised the athletics staff—s social-media work and historical archives being compiled by Gary Smith and others. The committee discussion framed the campaign and recognition work as part of broader efforts to celebrate students and alumni while ensuring programs continue to address transportation and scheduling challenges flagged earlier in the meeting.
Staff said an athletics update will be included on the full-board meeting agenda and that the district will continue to promote positive stories about student-athletes and alumni.
