Harmony Public Schools trustees approved the targeted improvement plan for Harmony Science Academy — Brownsville (CDN 015-828-005) after hearing a presentation from district staff and the campus principal.
Patrick Parker (presenting for Harmony Public Schools South Texas) described the campus as entering year two of its plan. He reported that the campus had made gains on last year’s accountability measures (moving recent scores from the mid-50s to the low 70s overall) and presented subject-level targets for reading, math and science. Principal Alvaro Saez summarized classroom interventions, including weekly student-work analysis, professional learning communities, Saturday academies and a dedicated intervention hour in grades that required it. The presenters emphasized continued observation-and-feedback cycles for teachers and targeted reteach sprints informed by student work.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the interim assessments (Interim 1 in November, Interim 2 in February) and about staff and student turnover; presenters replied that student mobility had some summer melt but was not large and that leadership had focused on retaining high-performing staff. The district indicated it would continue partnerships with Region 20 and use Power BI dashboards to monitor growth.
A board member moved to approve the targeted improvement plan as presented; the motion was seconded, and the board approved the plan by voice vote.
