Council approves change order for Dry Fork Greenway; small remaining contingency left

The Excelsior Springs City Council on a unanimous vote approved Resolution 16-13, authorizing change order number 4 to the Mega KC Corporation contract for the Dry Fork Greenway project.
City staff described two added line items: one for roughly 158 cubic yards at 1 foot of excavation and a second for about 66 cubic yards at 2 feet of excavation. Staff said the added work line item totaled about $17,002.20, bringing the contract to approximately $4,296,005.61 and leaving roughly $2,887.04 available for additional change orders on the project.
Council and staff discussed whether sections of the greenway could be opened to the public before all work is finished. Staff said excavation in a former parking area just past the culvert remained substantial and that the excavating subcontractor, Selby, was scheduled to finish excavation by Oct. 13; tree planting was scheduled to start Oct. 15. Staff emphasized that final grading and heavy hauling needed to be completed before opening the Kennedy drive/bridal area to traffic.
The council moved and seconded approval of Resolution 16-13; a roll call recorded unanimous 'yes' votes from the council members present and the resolution was approved.
Council recorded no further conditions on the change order. Staff offered to provide the resolution, supporting documentation and a spreadsheet of previous change orders for the record.
