Board approves replacement educational programs and operations levy (Resolution 25-21)

The Edmonds School District Board of Directors voted, by roll call, to approve Resolution 25‑21 to place a replacement educational programs and operations levy on the February 2026 ballot.

During the second reading, a board member clarified publicly that the measure is a replacement levy (not a new levy) and noted that roughly 15% of the district’s budget relies on local levies that must be renewed every four years. The board then called the roll; the transcript records affirmative votes from Director Gerard, Director Kramer, Director Smith, Director Chase and Director Cadence (chair). The resolution was announced as approved following the roll call.

No additional levy amounts, tax‑rate impacts or ballot language were presented in the public portion of the meeting; the chair said the district would begin public information efforts. District staff later said they would schedule forums and provide recorded materials so the community can review factual information about the levy.

Because the motion passed, the district will proceed with the administrative steps to place the replacement levy on the February 2026 ballot and to conduct community outreach about the measure.
