Committee refers EMT training agreement for Bridgeport Military Academy to full board

The finance committee on Oct. 29 referred to the full board an agreement between Bridgeport Public Schools and Mission CIT, LLC to provide EMT instruction and the required practical assessment at Bridgeport Military Academy.

A school representative described the program as a capstone pathway course with about a dozen students enrolled in the senior class (approximately 65 students in the cohort). Staff said Mission CIT provides a certified EMT instructor, delivers hands‑on training and administers the end‑of‑course assessments; practical skill demonstrations must occur in the presence of a certified instructor. The presenter said the contract amount is $27,900 for the year, an increase of $900 from the prior year.

Staff told the committee the funding source is leftover money from last year plus money from this year’s school improvement grant because the campus is a focus school. The presenter said the district is exploring longer‑term options to reduce contracting costs, including training an in‑district instructor (training estimated at about $6,000) to lower recurring expenses.

Committee member Mr. Medina moved to refer the agreement to the full board; the motion carried by voice vote. No final board approval was taken at committee.

Next steps: staff will place the agreement on the full board agenda for approval and continue to explore in‑district staffing to reduce future contract costs.
