Peter Russell, the newly appointed chief of the Neosho Police Department, introduced himself to the City Council and outlined his priorities, saying he plans to inventory personnel, training and equipment and to emphasize community‑focused policing.
Russell said he served in Neosho earlier in his career for more than 11 years, earned a law degree, and held senior roles in New Hampshire overseeing multiple agencies. "I'm here and it's good to be home," he said. He told council he has begun departmental inventory work and had just completed a department‑wide meeting noting the department's talent and commitment.
Russell described programs that connect officers with community nonprofits and said he encouraged officers to use fundraising efforts such as 'No Shave November' to support local charities, naming organizations that help shelter, foster‑care youth and school supply programs. He told council he wants policing to be "NEOSHO driven" and focused on improving quality of life across the community.
Council members thanked the chief for taking the post and welcomed his plans for incremental improvements and community engagement.
