Facilities staff reported that the elevator at the Federal Building failed when a control board went bad. The vendor said the quickest option was a rebuilt control board with no warranty, at an installed cost staff estimated at roughly $6,000; the board approved replacing the control board with the rebuilt unit and also directed staff to rebuild the countys existing board when practical.
Facilities staff described the Federal Building roof as having significant granule loss on the south side and recommended recoating; an initial estimate of about $59,000 was presented. The board approved going out for bids for a roof recoat and deferred the actual recoating to spring for better weather.
The board also selected a lighter paint color for county office interiors to match the boardroom and approved moving forward with painting work as part of current maintenance plans.
Meanwhile, the courthouse construction update noted that auger cast piling (35–60 feet deep) is scheduled and has begun at the site; staff warned of vibration monitoring after the piling began and reported that the builders' contingency and owners' contingency remain available. Staff also noted potential vibration damage to a courthouse scanner and arranged to swap in a replacement scanner pending repair evaluation.
Why it matters: The elevator repair restores an essential service in a federal building the county maintains; roof and interior maintenance preserve county facilities and the courthouse capital project continues with deep foundations that require oversight of vibration and other impacts.
The board approved the elevator repair motion, authorized soliciting bids for the roof recoating, and approved the selected paint color for county offices.
