Conrad reflected on a long career and urged the board to appoint Burley. "I want to push really hard that you guys appoint Chief Deputy Burley into my spot," Conrad said, praising Burleys experience and leadership.
Multiple commissioners thanked Conrad for his service and described the department's modernization under his leadership. Commissioners cited improved interagency relationships, technology investments and personnel continuity as evidence that the department remains in capable hands. The board voted to accept the retirement and to appoint Burley, with the appointment effective Dec. 22, 2025.
Burley addressed the board and thanked members and the sheriff for mentorship. He said he appreciated the support and noted mentors who helped shape his career.
