Public Works approves Freightliner purchase; board warned of tariff-linked price uncertainty from another vendor

Public Works explained the Peterbilt bid was higher because it required a frame extension; the Floyd's Freightliner quote was a firm price that the vendor said it would honor through Oct. 10. The director recommended the board accept a firm quote to avoid later increases tied to tariffs or model-year changes.
The board approved the purchase of the Freightliner (body and related equipment) on a recorded vote. Commissioners noted delivery was expected in March and that the purchase would not be available for the coming snow season. The director said the county was operating one truck short following an accident earlier in the year and expressed the urgency of replacing equipment.
