Local skate-park organizers tell council about successful event, propose open-mic series

Lisa Earl Pabich, representing the Pocomoke Skateboarder Alliance, told the mayor and council Oct. 20 that an Oct. 5 skate-park event drew local youth, included clinics, giveaways of shoes, helmets and shirts, and featured bands. She said the organizers provided logistics and cleanup and only required access to electricity and restrooms.
Pabich said she has submitted an application to host an open-mic series on the city stage and asked council to support the idea as a way to preview Riverfest acts and attract artists. "It was a phenomenal event," she told council, describing free lessons and community participation.
Mayor Tajay Nock and other council members praised the organizers, said the event helped reopen the skate park after a bridge project had closed it, and encouraged continued programming. Council members asked staff to work with organizers to proceed with applications and event planning.
