Police report: calls for service down 26% year‑over‑year; drug take‑back and community events highlighted

Hopkins reported 493 calls for service in October, compared with 675 calls at the same time last year. He described community events including Fall Fest, trunk or treat and a drug take‑back that the department ran with the DEA. Hopkins also noted a department team raised $5,713 for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and thanked officers who participated in community events.
The department highlighted two vehicle‑stop investigations in late October conducted in coordination with Carroll County that led to arrests and to the seizure of methamphetamine and other controlled substances. Hopkins also praised Officer Wright for receiving an impaired driving award and described canine deployments and positive alerts this month.
Hopkins said the department currently has one candidate in lateral processing and four entry‑level applicants. He encouraged residents to use the department’s medication disposal drop box at headquarters (Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.). No overdoses were reported in October.
Council members thanked the department for its community engagement and asked a few operational clarifying questions about body‑worn camera processing and staffing.
