Barron County board raises chair stipend to $550 per month, effective April 2026

Supervisor Gooslig introduced the proposal and said surrounding counties pay higher monthly stipends for the chair position. Board members discussed alternate approaches, including a flat fee versus per-meeting pay, and several supervisors said the stipend recognizes the duties and travel of the chair. After discussion the executive committee's recommendation to raise the stipend was presented to the full board and approved by roll call (29 yes).
Speakers emphasized the increase applies to the chair position rather than to vice chairs or committee members and that mileage remains subject to the IRS rate when it changes. The board noted the stipend is tied to the office, not to the individual, and will take effect when the chair is elected at the county's organizational meeting in April 2026.
