The Huron City Commission approved a package of routine actions at its meeting, including authorization for the Huron Police Department to purchase two 2025 Ford Police Interceptor utility vehicles and a $7,300 change order for sidewalk rehabilitation.
Police Chief Derek Loehr said the department sought to lock in 2025 pricing by starting the procurement process now. "The sooner we can get vehicles, the better," Chief Loehr said, noting repeated vehicle failures have forced officers to take patrol cars out of service. He told commissioners the purchase will be made from the Iowa state bid through Carl Chevrolet and that payment and possession will not be required until after Jan. 1, 2026.
City engineer Megan Eggleston recommended approval of change order No. 1 from B X Civil and Construction for bid 2024-03, describing additional rehabilitation needed at the east and west ends of an existing sidewalk where a lift was encountered. "We recommend to approve this change order," Eggleston said.
The commission also approved the consent agenda, which included approval of minutes from Oct. 27, 2025; fuel quotes for city departments; personnel items (the voluntary resignation of volunteer firefighter Robert Paladino, effective Oct. 24, 2025, and the employment of Clint Pistoka as a part-time, year-round parks custodian); a raffle permit for the volunteer fire department on Dec. 20, 2025; the appointment of Dennis Drake to the TIF project review committee; and payment of bills.
