Speakers praise Veterans Art Project, urge changes to Art Night shuttle and scheduling

Steve Dilley, executive director of the Veterans Art Project, told the commission the nonprofit worked with the city under an Arts in Parks grant and "did 27 events this year, with over 400 attendees," and asked the commission to continue support for arts-in-parks activities. Dilley also promoted a feedback session for the California Arts Council creative-economy blueprint scheduled for Jan. 30 and left printed materials summarizing a Conrad Prebys Foundation essay on a Veterans Art Project participant.
Molly Hintlian provided feedback on the recent Art Night event. She said multiple simultaneous locations made it difficult for attendees to experience everything and suggested consolidating or concentrating activities at a primary site, improving shuttle signage and volunteer support for seniors and starting earlier in the evening to encourage more participation and food-truck coordination.
Commissioners thanked the speakers and noted that many venues and partner organizations host Art Night activities beyond the three locations mentioned. Staff and commissioners welcomed the improvement suggestions and said they would take the feedback into account for future events.
