Sweetwater annexes McMinn County parcel for industrial development

The Sweetwater Board of Commissioners voted to annex Parcel 36 of McMinn County (map 011) and adopted a plan of service to allow an industrial development project to proceed.

The mayor noted that Tom, the developer, was present and that the current property owner, Nick Kazana, had requested the item remain on the agenda; the owner and developer indicated they were prepared to move forward with a purchase and requested annexation and city zoning. The board then voted on the annexation/plan of service by roll call and recorded unanimous ayes.

Separately, the board adopted ordinance 1059 on second and final reading to amend the zoning map and rezone parcel 036 to M‑1 General Industrial District. Commissioners clarified that McMinn County does not have zoning authority over the parcel; once inside the city limits the property will be subject to Sweetwater zoning regulations. The roll call on the rezoning recorded unanimous approval.
