Madison County approves multiple rezones and one variance; several items withdrawn or left without final action

The Madison County Board of Commissioners on Nov. 3 considered 13 zoning and land-use items, approving most items recommended by the county Planning & Zoning Commission but leaving at least one contested rezoning without a final approval.

The board heard staff presentations and public comment, and took final action on the following items: Chandler family rezone (Item 1) — approved following a 4–0 P&Z recommendation; combined Items 2 and 3 — approved together; Item 5 (Ellerard accessory dwelling) — approved; Item 6 (equine therapy conditional use) — approved following three supporters at the hearing; Items 7 and 8 — approved; Item 10 (Hayward Park stackhouse variance) — approved with a condition that construction conform to NRCS/engineer site plans and drawings; Item 11 — approved; Item 12 — the board denied the 2-acre R1 request consistent with the P&Z recommendation.
