Clallam MRC proposes kid-friendly nearshore displays, plans education subcommittee

Members agreed to add kid-focused education materials to next month’s agenda and to form a small education subcommittee over the winter to design portable, tabletop displays and kid-friendly posters for festivals and school outreach.
Chair described the need for low-text, picture-rich materials because large groups of elementary students move quickly through festival booths. "They need pictures. They need couple words because the kids move through quickly," the chair said. Committee members suggested a foldable tabletop intertidal model and other hands-on items that are transportable for Riverfest, Stream Fest and school visits.
Chelsea offered to help develop materials. "I'm actually working on making a similar one for, like, larger scale watershed for these sorts of tabling purposes ... I'm happy to be a part of a subcommittee that works on that," she said. Members agreed to convene the subcommittee over winter and to bring a draft concept and estimated costs back to the full committee for consideration of funding.
