Lewis County adopts ordinance to standardize creation and maintenance of advisory groups

The Lewis County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved Ordinance 13-69 on Nov. 4, creating a new chapter 2.51 in the Lewis County Code that standardizes the process for forming and maintaining advisory groups, including boards, commissions and committees.
Mindy Brooks, the county’s director of community development, explained that the ordinance "is to approve a new chapter 2.51 in the Lewis County Code, which deals with the establishment and maintenance of advisory groups, which includes boards, commissions and committees. This is a standardized process for creating new boards, commissions, and committees." Brooks told the board the ordinance also includes amendments to chapter 2.11 to move relevant planning commission provisions into the new chapter and that the ordinance "does not supersede any previously created committees or groups" established by earlier resolution, ordinance or RCW.
Brooks said the ordinance will take effect immediately upon passage and that the county will return with a separate resolution to form a short-term rental advisory group.
The board approved the ordinance by voice vote, 3–0.
