Fremont County proclaims November as Operation Greenlight, moves Veterans Day meeting

Fremont County commissioners announced the county will participate in Operation Greenlight and proclaimed all of November as Operation Greenlight to honor veterans and raise awareness about available benefits.

“Operation Green Light is an initiative that is led by the National Association of Counties, what we call NACO,” Commissioner Debbie Bell said, and commissioners said the county building will be lit green during the month.

Why it matters: Commissioners said the lighting is a visible reminder of local veterans and county services. Kevin Grantham said Fremont County employs roughly 30 to 40 veterans and that the county will read the names of those veterans at a board meeting moved to Monday, Nov. 10. The regular Nov. 11 meeting will be closed in recognition of Veterans Day.

Details: Bell said the national Operation Greenlight week runs Nov. 4–11 but the county will extend it through November. Grantham said the county will hold its regular board meeting at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, with the public hearing on the 2026 budget expected around 9:30 a.m. The county plans a luncheon for veterans after the meeting.

County role and partners: Commissioners credited the late Eric Sebeck for helping start the local effort and said the program is part of a broader National Association of Counties initiative. Bell noted NACo has partnered with retail outlets and that residents may buy green bulbs or otherwise display green lighting to show support.
