Commission approves FY25 budget amendment, renews landscaping contract and clears consent items

The City Commission of the City of North Lauderdale on Oct. 28 approved on first reading an ordinance amending Ordinance No. 24091483 to revise the fiscal year 2024–25 budget and adopted multiple consent resolutions, including $25,000 for the Tamarac North Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce and travel approvals for the mayor and commissioners.
The ordinance amendment was introduced under Florida Statute 166.241, which permits municipalities to amend a closed fiscal year’s budget within 60 days. City Manager Mike Sargis told the commission the amendment includes a $233,000 increase in the general fund (noting $100,000 for additional consulting services because of personnel vacancies), a $2,842,901 transfer in the capital projects fund to cover two recent property purchases, and a $439,989 increase in the insurance fund largely driven by higher property and workers’ compensation costs. Sargis said the city’s reserves remain healthy and that most departments were under budget for the year.
During the consent agenda the commission approved a package of resolutions authorizing (among other items) $25,000 in funding to the Tamarac North Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce for FY 2026, two blanket purchase orders of $40,000 each for fire/safety vendors, ratification of the mayor’s attendance at a state redevelopment conference, and authorization for mayor/commission travel to the National League of Cities summit in Salt Lake City. The consent agenda was adopted by roll call.
Separately, the commission approved a resolution renewing the Landscape Maintenance and Irrigation Services Agreement with Innovative Grounds Management of Florida LLC (OFP 2111411) for up to $325,000 with no cost increase. Commissioners discussed a parallel effort to expand employment and contracting opportunities for North Lauderdale residents — including a proposed resident landscaping program and adding public‑works staff for increased litter patrol — and asked staff to return with a program framework before the next renewal cycle.
Votes at a glance: the ordinance amendment (first reading) and the listed resolutions passed on roll call with unanimous “Yes” votes from Mayor Bordelon, Vice Mayor Louis Ricketts, Commissioner Bustamante, Commissioner Lewis and Commissioner Dr. Martin.
