Public raises privacy concerns about proposed Trulia/transcription contract for sheriff’s office; comment noted by board

"The county really needs to set better policy about the risks of so called AI and the implications and the long term consequences of having all of this data being uploaded to the cloud," John Stonebraker told the board during public comment. He urged the board to remove the contract from the consent agenda and to strengthen county policy on contractor data handling.
Stonebraker said transcription of body‑camera audio is among the tasks vendors propose to automate and that vendor use of large language models or cloud services raises retention and privacy issues despite contract language that vendors "will not retain county data beyond the scope necessary to perform this contract," a point he said is difficult to enforce.
Outcome: The board noted the emailed comment and a speaker card and then approved the consent agenda as presented. No board action was taken on the specific contract during the meeting.
