Cook County Human Relations Committee receives third-quarter Human Rights and Ethics report showing rise in complaints

Julia Eblinzaf, policy analyst with the Cook County Department of Human Rights and Ethics, presented the department—s third-quarter report to the Human Relations Committee and said the office had seen a significant increase in case filings and in the number of investigations closed within 180 days.
Eblinzaf said the department received 148 complaints in the previous fiscal year and 250 complaints year-to-date through the first three quarters of the current fiscal year. She said the most frequent complaint categories remained paid leave, employment and housing. The department recently added additional intake options to its case-management system to reduce "unknown" inquiries and made decisions available on a public database on the commission—s website to improve transparency and searchability.
Committee members moved to receive and file the report; the minutes from the previous meeting were also approved. The committee recorded an affirmative voice vote on the motions.
