Grundy County animal control reports 382 intakes year-to-date; kennel space strained

Angie, the county27s animal-control presenter at the meeting, said the shelter had taken in 30 animals this month and had 32 animals placed or released; the year-to-date intake reported was 382.
"Pretty typical for today. We have 30 free packs, 7 dogs. This month we've taken in 30 animals and have 32 go out. Our total animal intake for the year is 382," Angie said.
Angie described on-site capacity as 20 fixed kennels plus additional pop-up kennels stored in a shed and, when needed, kennels set up in a garage. She said staff try to allow free-roaming where appropriate and that the worst historical peak was "probably 60" animals at once. Angie said the shelter aims to keep the population under about 30 animals at a time.
She also reported two staff completed a one-day training put on by the Illinois Animal Control Association and that another certification class is planned.
The meeting record shows animal control claims were presented and approved by voice vote earlier in the meeting.
