The Veil Service Commission conducted routine business and heard a Quarter 3 report on recruiting, hiring and discipline on Nov. 3, 2025.
Chief Almeida reported that, for July through September, the department received 77 applications: 74 for entry-level positions and 3 lateral applications. Twenty applicants were placed on the entry-level eligibility list; 23 withdrew and five were disqualified. Twelve candidates advanced to chief’s interviews. From those 12, Almeida said four conditional offers were provided, three candidates were in the process of clearing background checks, one candidate was disqualified, and three had been hired and were pending completion of the academy.
Almeida said the academy runs about 19½ weeks (roughly 5½ months) and currently operates “up north.” He said the department would like to host a regional academy at its new training center but gave no firm timeline for when that would happen. When asked about the likelihood of a regional academy, Almeida said discussions have occurred but provided no additional schedule or commitments.
The chief also reported on disciplinary action in the quarter, saying a sustained complaint resulted in a 42.7-hour suspension and a formal reprimand.
There were no members of the public signed up to comment. The commission moved to approve the meeting agenda and the minutes from the Aug. 4, 2025 meeting; both motions were seconded and the commission approved them. Chair Amanda Veil then moved to adjourn at approximately 12:05 p.m.
That is all that was reported at the meeting.
