The Hermosa Beach Parks, Recreation and Community Resources Advisory Commission on Nov. 3 voted to recommend City Council approval of three new Level‑2 special events proposed for the 2026 calendar.

Staff presented the applications and site plans for each event and answered commissioner questions about footprint, load‑in/load‑out and potential overlap with other events on the north side of the pier.

USA Volleyball

Carolina Garvato, director of the Beach National Team Development Program for USA Volleyball, told the commission the training block would run Tuesday–Friday, June 9–12, 2026, and would bring the country’s top collegiate athletes for short training sessions ahead of international competition. Garvato said athletes would stay locally if the permit is granted and estimated direct local hotel revenue of about $44,000 plus roughly $26,000 in local dining during the stay.

Beach Tennis Cali Club

Representatives from Beach Tennis Cali Club described planned tournaments across several weekends in 2026, including sessions in March, June, August and October. Staff noted that an October date would put a beach tennis tournament and a volleyball tournament alongside each other on the north side of the pier; staff and the event producers said they would manage court layouts so the events do not interfere with each other.

Out‑of‑System four‑man volleyball tournament

Event producers explained the Out‑of‑System tournament would be a one‑day four‑man tournament on Saturday, June 13, 2026, and estimated roughly 200 participants and 100 spectators. The organizer said amplified sound would be used for announcements and background music.

Votes and follow‑up

• USA Volleyball training block: Commission recommended approval to the City Council (motion carried 5–0).

• Beach Tennis Cali Club tournaments: Commission recommended approval and directed staff to ask the promoter whether the June 26 and June 28 dates could be moved to June 19 and June 21 to avoid overlap with Smackfest; motion carried 4–1.

• Out‑of‑System four‑man tournament (June 13, 2026): Commission recommended approval to council; motion carried 5–0.

Staff will forward the commission’s recommendations and the staff report to City Council for action at its Nov. 17 meeting.
