Council rezones two parcels near industrial park to planned light-industrial district

The City Council voted to rezone two properties north of West Ridgeway Avenue and east of South Union Road from A-1 Agricultural to M-1P Planned Light Industrial on first consideration.
Michelle Beasley, planner for the city, said the parcels are adjacent to the existing industrial park; they will be combined with a revised plat and are served by water, sewer and an adequate street network. "The criteria for rezoning is very simple," Beasley said. "Does it comply with the comprehensive plan? Is there water, sewer, all the public services? An adequate street network? The answer is yes." She noted the planning and zoning commission recommended approval.
Council opened the item for public comment; none was offered. The ordinance passed on its first consideration by roll call vote, and staff said design standards and tree screening will be applied as the site develops.
