Town staff told the council the negotiations reduced the town's cost by $51,492 from the last proposal and agreed to an administrative-fee change the town sought, lowering the fee from the 15% URI had proposed to 10% for the enterprise account. The motion authorized a roughly $100,000 one-year agreement, subject to final review by the town solicitor.
The regional wastewater treatment facility is physically located in Narragansett but is operated under an intermunicipal agreement by the town of South Kingstown; the council discussed the arrangement and the town's interest in a clear path for continued operational cooperation with URI.
Councilors praised staff and outside partners for the negotiations that produced the reduction. The motion passed unanimously, 5–0.
The council recorded nothing further in public about contract terms beyond the cost reduction and fee change; the motion required the town manager to obtain solicitor review before execution.
