The Board of Supervisors approved an emergency two‑month extension to a private security contract for the Behavioral Health department to prevent a gap in on‑site security services.
County counsel said staff identified a need to bring an amendment to temporarily extend the term of the contract to avoid interruption of services while Behavioral Health completes review of proposals and selects a long‑term contractor. CAO Julio Warren told the board he had spoken with the current contractor and that security services had continued without interruption during the contracting issue.
Interim Behavioral Health director Rachel White and board members described the approval as a short‑term step to preserve continuity and allow the department and selection committee to complete the formal RFP process. The board voted 4–0 to approve the extension through Dec. 31 and directed staff to return with the RFP recommendation.
Public commenters raised concerns that internal communication and procurement procedures had contributed to the scheduling issue; board members said the county is reviewing procurement practices to prevent similar occurrences.
