Dakota County proclaims November Operation Greenlight for Veterans Week
The Dakota County Board of Commissioners approved a proclamation Nov. 4 designating November as Operation Greenlight for Veterans Week in the county.

Lisa Thomas, director of Dakota County Veteran Services, briefed the board on the campaign and asked for the proclamation. "This is our fourth year in Dakota County of honoring, showing support for, and thanking our veterans and military community for their service to our nation," Thomas said. She described the campaign's practice of lighting buildings and encouraging residents to display green lights or bulbs as a sign of support.

Thomas said the county purchased 800 green light bulbs using one of its state grants and will distribute them through library branches and veteran-service offices at County facilities. She listed municipal participants who plan to light buildings or landmarks, including Burnsville, Eagan, Inver Grove Heights, Rosemount, West Saint Paul and Apple Valley.

After the presentation the board moved and approved the proclamation by roll call.

Thomas asked commissioners to help promote the campaign and to encourage residents and businesses to participate in the week of observance.
