Plumas County elections office reports roughly 900 undeliverable ballots; voters advised to contact county

Plumas County elections officials told the Board of Supervisors on Oct. 21 that approximately 900 ballots had been returned to the county as undeliverable, primarily affecting Greenville, Taylorsville and Gray Eagle addresses.

Marcy DeMarquil, speaking for the elections office, said the voter file mailing addresses matched records provided by the voters and that the county is working with the U.S. Postal Service to investigate the cause. DeMarquil said voters could come to the elections office to pick up ballots or request that the office reissue a ballot after completing required verification steps.

She reiterated that the county follows strict chain-of-custody procedures when retrieving ballots from external drop boxes and counts returned ballots only after signature verification. DeMarquil also reported that turnout to date was about 23% and that the last day the county can mail ballots under state law for this election is Tuesday, Oct. 28. She reminded voters that conditional voter registration was available at the elections office for those who missed earlier registration deadlines.

Separately, the board was asked about whether write-in candidates could still file in some contests; the elections office said deadlines vary by district and referred callers to the county elections calendar on the website for exact filing dates.
