DuPage County staff presented updates on a planned touchscreen kiosk program for the county campus and received committee consensus to move forward to procurement and return with final designs.
Jeff, a county staff member presenting the project, said the outdoor kiosk at 421 South Lot is nearing the permitting stage and that the county is waiting on stamped engineering drawings for a small awning. "We are progressing on the outdoor 421 South Lot kiosk," Jeff said, describing a process in which the vendor will install the touch-screen unit and county electricians will complete the electrical work.
Staff also presented an indoor kiosk concept for a north-end glass hallway inside the county building where power and data are already available. The indoor unit would include a touchscreen and a directional speaker to limit audio to the area in front of the screen. Sarah, identified in the presentation as stormwater staff, and other staff members offered to assist with initial content, which staff proposed to pull from public materials already on the county website and county YouTube channel.
Funding: staff proposed using the remaining ARPA/Heritage Gallery funds earmarked for the Heritage Gallery project. Presentation slides showed about $100,000 remaining in that fund and listed pricing of $18,000 for the touchscreen kiosk and $6,000 for a directional speaker, which would leave roughly $76,000 in the fund if those purchases are approved. Committee members asked procurement questions and staff clarified that quotes are posted on the county website and invitations to bid are sent rather than relying on newspaper posting.
Committee direction: Committee members indicated consensus to proceed with procurement and to return to the committee for final sign-off on design and content before installation.
Next steps identified included moving forward with procurement through the county’s procurement staff (Valerie was referenced as procurement staff), completing permits and stamped drawings for the outdoor kiosk, and returning to the committee with final designs and content proposals.
