Cowlitz County HHS adds funds for perinatal hepatitis B follow-up and up to $200,000 for infrastructure projects

Gina James, director of Health & Human Services, presented a contract amendment to the county’s consolidated contract with the Washington State Department of Health. The amendment adds two items: perinatal hepatitis B case-based funding (an increase of $750 on the line discussed, bringing the perinatal funding in that line to roughly $1,000 in total) and an up-to-$200,000 reimbursement for public health infrastructure projects.
James said public-health infrastructure funds would be reimbursement-based and staff were considering projects such as an update or replacement of the county’s food database system; any project would require cost quotes and state approval prior to reimbursement. On questions about hepatitis B she said, "we currently have 3 cases" and explained the county’s role: reported perinatal hepatitis B cases are not usually handled by county staff as vaccine providers but by case follow-up, family support and coordination with clinicians to ensure timely testing and vaccination where appropriate.
A commissioner moved approval of the contract amendment and the board approved the item by voice vote.
