Shawnee County Department of Corrections authorized to post and fill three maintenance positions funded in 2026 budget

Brian Cole, speaking for the Shawnee County Department of Corrections, requested authorization to post and fill two maintenance technician I positions and one facilities line supervisor position. He said the positions were funded in the 2026 budget and that the department does not expect hires to begin until after pay period one in 2026.

Cole said the positions will support expanded preventive maintenance and services across the department’s three facilities as the jail increases behavioral-health capacity. He told commissioners the existing maintenance staff had been in place since 1988 and that the additional positions would allow the department to expand maintenance capacity.

The board approved the request 3-0. The salaries and benefits amounts stated in the meeting were $57,997.88 for each maintenance technician I position and $95,260.21 for the facilities line supervisor; commissioners noted the hires would proceed after the 2026 pay period start.
