Several other matters on the Oct. 27 docket were resolved or continued after brief proceedings.
Theron Walker pleaded no contest to a theft charge and applied for deferred adjudication. The court accepted stipulated evidence, deferred a finding of guilt and imposed conditions that included 180 hours of community-service restitution (with the possibility of satisfaction through education or trade certification), a TAP evaluation, GPS monitoring with a 10 p.m. curfew and regular reporting, and a restitution status/reset on Dec. 2. The court set monthly field visits and advised on exceptions to curfew for verified employment.
John Zepeda appeared by Zoom on a motion to set bond after a missed court appearance. Defense counsel explained the defendant believed the misdemeanor court date was Nov. 17; the court found the failure to appear on Oct. 27 to have been nonwillful and set bond at $5,000. The court instructed the clerk to coordinate the felony matter with the defendant's pending misdemeanor setting.
Other docket housekeeping included discovery resets and continuances. Counsel were reminded to coordinate with probation and court staff regarding restitution hearings, discovery review dates and potential Zoom arrangements for transported defendants. Several matters were continued to dates in November and December for discovery, plea deadlines or restitution status hearings.
Actions recorded in these items include acceptance of deferred-adjudication applications with conditions for Walker, the bond-setting for Zepeda and multiple procedural resets for discovery and restitution hearings.
