Pike County approves $1.25 million HB6 grant application and change order to address landfill slide

Pike County Fiscal Court on Nov. 4 authorized filing a Kentucky local government economic development fund (House Bill 6) grant application for $1,250,000 to cover the county’s portion of a currently underway landfill expansion and approved a related change order to address a slide at the landfill.

Judge Jones introduced the resolution and moved that the court submit the HB6 grant application and authorize the judge executive to execute all documents necessary to carry out the project and to act as the project correspondent. The motion passed on a roll-call vote with Commissioner Scott, Commissioner Atkins and Commissioner Lewis recorded as voting yes.

The county also discussed a slide at the landfill and approved a change order up to $316,486 to remove slide material and complete initial remediation work. Judge Jones said the county expects to cover that cost under the HB6 grant application and that the first phase will be removing slide material where the contractor already has equipment on site.

Staff noted the grant would extend the landfill’s usable life by approximately six to seven years; Judge Jones said the county may not need the entire grant award immediately but wants authorization to draw funds as needed. No opposition or amendments were recorded during the public roll-call votes.

The court’s approval authorizes the judge executive to sign all documents required to effect the grant filing and to act as the authorized correspondent for the project. The court recorded the action by roll call; the record shows unanimous approval of the motion as presented.
