The presentation noted the Parks & Rec department had been awarded a $738,406 Healthy Kids Initiative grant that will extend the city's purchasing power for play equipment and inclusive play opportunities for children of all abilities. Staff said the Phase 3 program completes additional park units identified in the long-term plan and allows for a mix of full replacements and smaller targeted repairs.
Councilmembers confirmed the grant terms and asked questions about specific splash-pad and parking components. Staff said they could provide a more limited ("Buick rather than Rolls Royce") splash-pad option to stay within available funds. The council voted to proceed with the Phase 3 scope and accept the grant funding (motion carried 7-0).
