Berkeley County planning panel approves Berkeley Medical Center parking expansion

The Berkeley County Planning Commission voted to approve a detailed site plan for the Berkeley Medical Center parking expansion, a 9.83-acre overflow parking area intended to serve the existing hospital and medical offices in the Hedgesville District. The motion to approve was made by Michael Bush and seconded by Daniel Gant; the motion passed by voice vote.
Staff presented the proposal (File 2503-088), saying the detailed site plan meets the county subdivision ordinance requirements. Staff noted Phase 2 of the project — a pedestrian bridge and ramp access — will be submitted later as a plan change. Staff also reported no water or sewer service is proposed for the expansion.
Dan Murphy, identified in the record as a project representative, attended on behalf of the applicant. No members of the public spoke during the public hearing; the commission closed the hearing before taking the approval vote.
The approved detailed site plan will allow the developer to proceed with the parking expansion work subject to any standard permitting conditions and subsequent approvals required for Phase 2. The county will process the pedestrian bridge and ramp separately when that plan is submitted.
