Police report: arrests and citations up as officers work interdictions; fire reports trailer-park structure fire

At the Germantown meeting police and fire chiefs presented monthly reports focusing on enforcement activity, training and recent incidents.
Police Chief Martin said arrests and citations were up from previous years and highlighted a recent interdiction that resulted in approximately seven arrests for drug violations, outstanding warrants and driving-related offenses. He said officers have been more proactive and that increased reporting and time spent on arrests and paperwork have lowered apparent call volume.
"The crimes are up because of just the people coming to the area. The arrests... they're more proactive," Chief Martin said, adding that many arrests stem from traffic stops and that more cases are being referred to the district attorney's office rather than handled as hand tickets.
Trustees asked whether higher statistics reflect more crime or increased enforcement; Martin said both. The board also reviewed overtime figures: police-union overtime was up compared with 2024 while sergeant overtime was down by roughly $3,000; some overtime related to mandatory training. Fire Chief Delaine reported October overtime was low, the second-lowest month of the year.
Chief Delaine noted a recent structure fire in a trailer park that destroyed one trailer and displaced residents; one resident was treated for smoke inhalation. Trustees asked whether senior-living facilities remained incident hot spots; Delaine confirmed they accounted for a higher share of recent calls.
The chiefs fielded questions but no policy changes were proposed at the meeting.
